Traditional Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture)

Established in 1956, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM) is one of first four colleges of traditional Chinese medicine in China. Boasting of complete disciplines and a group of celebrated experts, the university has taken an academic leadership among the colleges of traditional Chinese medicine in China, with integration of education, clinic and scientific research. Since 50 years ago, SHUTCM has cultivated various kinds of TCM professors for our country. In 1999, the university passed the evaluation of “National Excellent college of Undergraduate Education”, being the first university of traditional Chinese medicine honored with this reputation in China. SHUTCM has approximately 600 professors, including academicians of the Academy of Sciences, national-celebrated TCM doctors. SHUTCM has 19 subsidiary colleges and departments, 5 affiliated hospitals, 20 independent or affiliated research institutes. 

Today, SHTCM has more than 8200 students. There are more than 800 international students for academic degree programs and more than 1000 short-term students from 30 countries every year. The large scale of the overseas students of our university is listed as the top of the colleges of traditional Chinese medicine in China.

SHUTCM is active in international cooperation, having agreements with 14 countries and regions just as UK, USA, Italy, Germany, Romania, France, Finland, Japan, and Thailand, etc.. An extensive international network has been formed in education, clinic and research of traditional Chinese medicine.

International Education College is the institution for overseas students in SHUTCM. Supported by the university’s educational resources, the college has trained nearly 6,000 TCM doctors, acupuncturists and physiotherapists from almost 100 countries and regions for almost 30 years. The college passed the accreditation of ISO 9001:2000 International Quality System and was awarded the CNAB certificate in China and RAB certificate in United States. International Acupuncture Training Center entrusted by WHO is in the International Education College, providing multiple TCM programs with professional interpretation in English, Japanese, French and Korean.

1. Q: Is it possible to get access to the Internet in the overseas students dormitory?

A: The overseas student may apply for installation of ADSL from China Telecom in the room. The applicant please goes to the Estate Management Center to process necessary application with the passport. The monthly charge for ADSL is RMB80, for 24-hour online service.

 2. Q: Are the overseas students allowed to live outside the campus? What is the regular price? How to find a proper apartment?

A: The overseas students are allowed to live outside the campus. The local apartment (with one or two bedrooms) near the University usually charges from RMB1200 to RMB2000. The Overseas Students Service Center may offer information on some apartments near the University. The overseas students may also go the formal and professional estates intermediary companies for information on the available apartments.

 3. Q: What attention should be paid to in accommodation outside the campus?

A: In order to avoid accidents in daily life of overseas students in accommodation outside the campus, the following points should be paid to:

?  Guarantee the safety in life and property, and avoid infringement.

?  Care about safe use of gas. If gas water heater is used, the forced air-exhausting water heater must be used and equipped outside the bathroom. In using water heater, the window of the bathroom must be opened properly.

?  Care about traffic safety, abide by the traffic rules.

?  Keep contact with the college. If the address is changed, get the college informed promptly.

 4. Q: What procedures should be handled in accommodation for overseas students?

A: a) Overseas student should first sign “Contract of Tenancy” with Zhangjiang Real Estate Company Limited or the landlord.

b) “Registration Form of Outcampus Accommodation” should be obtained from Overseas Students Office (Room 206), International Education College and completed with “Contract of Tenancy”.

c) After “Registration Form of Outcampus Accommodation” is completed, overseas student should go to police station of Zhangjiang High-Tech Park (add: west to № 111 Niudun Road) or the local police station in jurisdiction of the rental house for “Registration Form of Temporary Accommodation”.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

● High school or above graduate; for General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (A-Level), IB or AP courses, transcripts must be provided and approved after review. 

● The new version of HSK Level 4 ≥ 180 points (except for Chinese descendants). 

●The age range is generally from 16 to 65 years old.

●

Front page of the passport (The passport must be valid for 6 months from the date of submitting the application); 

●

High school or equivalent degree certificate and transcript, or transcripts for A-Level/IB/AP and other courses; 

●

HSK certificate (for non-Chinese descendants) 

●

Certificate of No Criminal Record (can be accompanied by a signed commitment letter of no criminal record from the school, see Appendix 4); 

●

Financial guarantee letter (a bank deposit certificate can be provided, with the amount sufficient to cover the tuition and living expenses during the study in China; or relevant proof of movable or immovable property can be provided; a financial guarantee letter can be signed with the school, see Appendix 5); 

●

Payment voucher for the registration fee or screenshot of online payment;
